Opera, MTN Join Hands to Boost Mobile Internet Services

Aiming to enhance mobile internet services throughout Africa, the mobile operator MTN has signed a deal with Opera software.

In Africa and Middle East regions, MTN has in total around 150 million subscribers. Well, by using Opera Mini software, the web pages will shrink and therefore will allow the users to have a faster loading and display times. This is the reason that in order to have access to a faster web experience, MTN has signed an agreement with Opera.

Today also in most of the developing countries the mobile web is often unavailable. This means that people still are not able to access the internet as cable broadband infrastructure.

For some players, the web growth in Africa is possible only with the help of mobile and not with the help of two fiber broadband cables in operation.

In this regard, as told by Brett St Clair Google head of mobile: "When it comes to the rest of Africa, forget it. It's going to be Wi-Max [Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access]; Wi-Fi”.

However, according to the Internet Service Providers' Association in SA, there is no doubt in saying that mobile will continue to grow exponentially here but for the network and connectivity, there still a need for the fiber backbone.
