In a bid to support poor kids, the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund donated a financial stimulus of R42 million, aimed at building a children's hospital that will be the second in the country after the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Western Cape.
Responding to the benevolent effort of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, Dr. Velaphi, Head of Neo-Natal department at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, expressed all words of thanks to the stakeholders.
"So many children die while waiting for ICU beds because there is not enough beds to accommodate them, currently there are 50 children in Johannesburg waiting for surgery and not all of them can be operated on until there are ICU beds to accommodate them", said Velaphi.
Nonetheless, a lot of risk is involved in building the facility, against the lives of millions of children in Southern Africa, the potential beneficiaries, the effort seems to be quite subdued.
While speaking at the event, CEO for the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, Sibongile Khumalo, assured effective utilization of the available resources so as to provide best possible care to the children.
However, Former Governor of Reserve Bank and now Chairman of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund sub-committee, Tito Mboweni, appealed for instilled funds to be 'invested not banked'.
